The Land Water Connection

Course Description

South Carolina’s coast is surrounded by beautiful beaches, estuaries, rivers, and creeks. These natural features are what attract many people to live on the coast. In this course we will discuss what homeowners can do to protect water quality and reduce the risk of flooding on their property. We’ll cover topics including managing stormwater, the pollutants that affect water quality, and what residents can do on their property and in their neighborhood to slow water down, spread it out, and soak it in.

We will share case studies of neighborhoods that incorporated landscaping techniques to handle stormwater, resulting in increased property values. Lastly, we’ll expand on the economic perspective of how various approaches to managing water can raise property values on the South Carolina coast. You’ll walk away with a better understanding of the land-water connection and equipped with resources to share with your clients.
