In recent years EIOLT has been putting increasing focus enhancing and restoring water quality across Edisto Island. Water plays a huge role in all of our lives on Edisto Island. But, did you know, 70% of Edisto Island’s creeks are contaminated with fecal bacteria pollution? That’s not good! The Edisto Island Watershed Plan identified failing septic systems as a likely major cause of bacteria pollution. But the Plan also has solutions for these issues. EIOLT created a Water Quality Improvement Program for Edisto Island to get septic systems fixed across the Island and improve water quality for the benefit of us all who fish, swim, and admire our tidal creeks. We’re also working to decrease nutrient run-off and streamline erosion across the Island to tackle our turbidity issues.
Join us at this workshop to learn what we all can do to fix our water quality issues!
