How to Balance Growth, Development, and Conservation: Planning with State Protected Species Data

Date

March 25, 2025

Time

1PM-4PM

Location

Charleston, SC

Venue

Marine Resources Research Institute

Narrative

Participants will learn how to use and interpret South Carolina National Heritage Program’s (SCNHP) tools and datasets for the purpose of making species-conscious regulatory recommendations and decisions. Topics include species data (how is it used, data governance/existing laws, data collection/survery123), species conservation rankings, mapping occurrences, and interpreting data (examples, survey windows, sampling bias). Participants will also hear from the Office of Environmental Programs about the environmental review process – what this information means for participants’ projects (Do I need to survey? What is a habitat assessment?). Participants are encouraged to bring a project from their municipality to talk through.

This training is approved for 2.5 APA AICP and SCPEAC credits.
