Location

9-4, BCDCOG, 1362 McMillan Ave., Ste. 100, N. Charleston, SC 29405

Narrative

The South Carolina Planning Education Advisory Committee is requiring that new planning and zoning board members of municipal and county governments complete 6 hours of approved planning and zoning training by January 1, 2008. New and incumbent officials and most staff must also complete 3 hours of continuing education by January 1, 2008. This includes local and county government planning commissions, boards of zoning appeals and architectural review, as well as staff who directly or indirectly work with planning officials. According to the Municipal Association of South Carolina, failure to complete this training can result in “an appointed official being removed from office and a professional employee can be suspended or dismissed.”
To assist in the training, staff from the BCDCOG completed the instructor training provided by the Municipal Association and will be conducting training sessions at the BCDCOG offices. Please note that there are TWO SEPARATE TRAINING SESSIONS: one 6-hour training for new officials and staff and a separate continuing education course for those who have completed the initial 6-hour training.
