Orientation Training for Appointed Planning and Zoning Officials

March 28, 2014

BCDCOG Conference Room, North Charleston

The South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act Of 1994, Title 6, Chapter 29, Article 9 Section 6-29-1350 requires all newly appointed planning/zoning board and commission members to attend a 6-credit hour orientation program. Appointed officials (planning commissioners, board of zoning appeals members, or board of architectural review members) and professional employees (planning professionals, zoning administrators or code enforcement officials, or a deputy or assistant to the above) are required to comply with these educational provisions no later than 1-year after appointment or hiring. Failure to complete this training can result in “an appointed official being removed from office and a professional employee can be suspended or dismissed.” The BCD Council of Governments is hosting and facilitating an orientation training session on Friday, March 28th from 9am to 3:30pm that satisfies these requirements. Municipalities are billed directly by the Municipal Association of South Carolina for program materials used by attendees ($25). Attendees may bring a bagged lunch or have the option of purchasing one for $10 by placing an order that morning. You may pay for a dinner in advance when sending in the reservation, with a check payable to BCDCOG, or attendees may pay that day. Please make sure to notify your registrants of this option and how your jurisdiction wants to handle payment. [We cannot bill you for dinners after the session] If you have officials or staff who would like to attend this training or if you have any questions, please contact Vonie Gilreath at 529-0400 ext. 202 or via email at Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible by submitting this registration form either by mail to the BCDCOG, by e-mail at the address above, or via fax at: (843) 529-0305. We look forward to seeing you.
