Orientation Training for Planning and Zoning Officials/Employees

November 18, 2015

Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments; 1362 McMillan Ave, Suite 100, North Charleston, SC

The South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act Of 1994, Title 6, Chapter 29, Article 9 Section 6-29-1350 requires all newly appointed planning/zoning board/ commission members and designated planning employees to attend a 6-credit hour orientation program. Appointed officials and professional employees (planning professionals, zoning administrators or code enforcement officials, or a deputy or assistant to the above) are required to comply with these educational provisions no later than 1 year after appointment or hiring. Failure to complete this training can result in “an appointed official being removed from office and a professional employee can be suspended or dismissed.”

To help meet this training requirement, Charleston County and the BCD Council of Governments are each facilitating one more 6 hour orientation training in 2015. This one is facilitated by the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments and will take place in the Barrett Lawrimore Conference Room.

If you have officials or staff who would like to attend this training, please contact Vonie Gilreath at the BCDCOG at 529-0400 ext. 202 or via email at

Registration deadline to attend this training is Monday, November 9th.
