Sea Level Rise Adaptation Strategies for Beaufort County, S.C. Public Workshop

Date

August 26, 2014

Location

St. Helena Branch Library, St. Helena, S.C.

Narrative

The Beaufort County Planning Department, S.C. Sea Grant and partners will hold two sessions of a public workshop on sea level rise adaptation strategies in Beaufort County. The second workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 26 from 1:00-4:00pm in the large meeting room at the St. Helena Branch Library. This is a free workshop, but registration is required. Please spread the word in your respective networks and direct those interested to register by August 20th at: https://sites.google.com/site/beaufortslr/home. The goal is to gather public input on sea level rise adaptation strategies. A small group of Beaufort County staff and stakeholders has been working together to identify the County’s vulnerability to sea level rise and discuss adaptation strategies. We now wish to open up this discussion to a much broader audience across the County. To facilitate this, we will hold the workshop in two locations. The format will consist of presentations followed by breakout group discussions. The presentations will share the latest science, review the GIS maps, and review the county’s vulnerabilities identified by the focus group. During the breakout groups, we will facilitate discussion among small groups of audience members. We may also print out poster-sized GIS maps and encourage audience members to mark areas of concern at their leisure (or at the beginning/end of session).
