The Shoreline Change Advisory Committee will hold a public hearing on Jan. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the S.C. Department of Natural Resources auditorium at Fort Johnson in Charleston, S.C.
Anyone wishing to speak during the public hearing will be allowed up to five minutes on topics related to physical shoreline changes, resulting social, economic or environmental impacts, and policy options for improved shoreline management in South Carolina. The public comment period may be shortened or lengthened based on attendance.
Anyone wishing to comment should pre-register by contacting Braxton Davis at DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management at 843-953-0246 or by email to: davisbc@dhec.sc.gov. Written comments will also be accepted throughout the committee process, which is anticipated to conclude by summer 2009.
Organized by DHEC, the Shoreline Change Advisory Committee is comprised of a broad cross-section of stakeholders including scientists, engineers, coastal managers, municipal officials, developers, conservationists, and legal professionals. The committee’s purpose is to organize existing shoreline research, identify research priority needs, and consider policy-related issues concerning the future management of South Carolina’s estuarine and beachfront shorelines.
