The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium is a state agency that, through a program of research, education, extension, and training, enhances economic opportunities and conservation of coastal and marine resources for South Carolina citizens. The agency is affiliated at the federal level with the NOAA National Sea Grant College Program, a partnership among the federal government, state government, and academia administered by the NOAA National Sea Grant Office. One of 32 programs in the country, the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium has 8 member institutions including universities and state agencies and is administratively linked to the state's Cooperative Extension Service. The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium mission is to apply university-based research and technologies to issues relating to the responsible use of coastal resources. The S.C. Sea Grant Extension Program (SCSGEP) is a joint outreach effort of the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service and the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium. Through collaborations and partnerships the S.C. Sea Grant Extension Program provides science-based information and/or direct technical assistance to individuals, organizations, and groups related to the following program areas: Aquaculture; Coastal Hazards; Coastal Business & Economics; Coastal Environmental Quality; Marine Fisheries; Coastal Processes; Coastal Climate; and Coastal Communities.
